In brief this includes a 30 day refund period no questions asked as well as lifetime trade up and buy back policies. If you don’t like it you’re not stuck with it. Simple as that. We’ll provide you with more data than any website to help you but even after you receive our products, if you’re not happy we’ll gladly refund your purchase price. Your only cost is what it is to ship. While other websites offer trade up policies, most have a time limit on the policy or certain stipulations with the amount you can trade up to (ie. 40%, 50% or even 100% more!) while ours has none PLUS the fact that we can offer you the best selection of diamonds cut for Light Performance
Exclusive Service that is 2nd to none: If we have what you want or have to acquire it we then perform what is the most thorough gemological analysis offered online. Our business model is “the standard”. Some companies attempt to mimic some of our services but none of them do it all nor at the level of quality that we offer it. These include…
Exclusive High Definition Video: If we are helping a client with round varieties (which we have not shot before) or especially fancy shaped diamonds. Not only are we going to show you HD video but at Good Old Gold labs we’ve mastered the art of being able to accurately show our clients the effects of brightness, contrast, fire, sparkle, leakage, contrast, transparency etc. Ie. All the optical characteristics that orchestrate a diamonds beauty. Other websites that offer video at best spin a diamond on a stage which while better than nothing DOES NOT show the real optical properties of the diamond you are considering. Our competitors show you 1 environment that isn’t even realistic to the lighting you will see it in daily while we will show you in 3-4 lighting environments that mimic everyday viewing conditions. You can’t even compare the service. Here is a sample among the hundreds of various comparisons we have online.
Weight ratio/Spread: This is the determination that the diamond doesn’t looks too small for its weight! You don’t want to pay for weight you can’t see!
With relation to the diamonds cut quality we also provide analysis of the following.
Proportion Factors: Considering how things like girdles that are too thin are prone to chipping, aspects like culet sizes and the overall geometry of a diamond can impact it’s optics and durability we make sure you don’t get stuck with one that has these problems.
Polish: The final step in the cutting process is applying the polish which when executed properly contributes to the high gloss sheen we observe on the facet surfaces of well cut diamonds.
Symmetry: Traditional symmetry analysis is examined under our gemological microscopes and with our high definition diamond scanners (Sarin HD) we can show you GIA’s grading on this factor as well for any round brilliant.
Exclusive Optical Symmetry Grading: Unlike traditional symmetry grading which strictly looks at exterior symmetry details, our laboratory examines and photographs, from a 3 dimensional view the Optical Symmetry of any given diamond. At this time GIA nor AGS grade a diamond for this characteristic which, when executed properly takes diamond cutters up to 5x longer to cut than the traditional AGS Ideal or GIA Excellent and is a reflection of superior craftsmanship. We will assign a grade of “Ascendancy”, “Platinum” or “Gold” to every round brilliant in our inventory.
Exclusive DiamXray™ Analysis: Our DiamXray machine is akin to an “x-ray” of a diamond showing us very critically where light leakage exists in any diamond we examine under it. We will then photograph the results and include it on the individual diamonds web page. It is similar but not identical to “Ideal-Scope” as it shows these details in a much critical manner.
ASET (Exclusive PhASET™) Analysis: Utilizing AGS’ ASET (Angular Spectrum Evaluation Tool) we have constructed a lens/photographic setup which accurately shows us the distinctions between leakage, light return as well as where the diamond is grabbing light from within the environment. Ie. We’ve taken the technology and made it as good as it gets. Standard ASET photography does not clearly show the distinction between leakage (black) and head/body obstruction (blue). We changed that and utilize HD lens. The image to the left is of the same diamond. One taken with our PhASET technology (left) the other with a standard ASET (right). One more clearly shows the distinctions in leakage while the other can be misleading.
Hearts and Arrows Imagery: We provide both Hearts & Arrows imagery of any round in our inventory under the actual H&A viewer. Most websites that advertise Hearts & Arrows diamonds who do take the time to photograph what they’re claiming will often only take a Hearts image alone. While that is helpful that is only giving half the story. You might be surprised what you saw if they completed the exam. With us you don’t even have to ask. We do it by default. IdealScope images are not Arrows images. It must be taken through the Hearts & Arrows scope.
Exclusive Inspection and Analysis of Girdle Cutting: Included in our analysis of cut is a precise determination of features known by cutters as “Painting” or “Digging”. A diamond can have seemingly perfect angles and proportions but if it is “painted” or “dug out” it will impact not only the grade from GIA or AGS but also its light performance. Since GIA and AGS have different tolerances for grading this characteristic we incorporate what is the most conservative grading for these characteristics ensuring that our client’s diamonds qualify as the top grade in either lab.
Exclusive High Definition Sarin Analysis: The Sarin scanner is the most widely used cad scanner of diamonds in our industry. Incorporated by GIA and AGS Laboratories we utilize their best and most accurate model which includes their high definition lens (interchangeable depending on diamond size) to produce the most accurate results. Enough to be able to accurately grade the diamonds symmetry and determine it’s cut grade in both GIA and AGS Laboraties..
Exclusive Helium Report by Octonus: The Helium Report is the most detailed facet by facet analysis you will ever see published on a diamond. It smokes the general Sarin Report being offered by online competitors as it gives a detailed mathematical breakdown of each facet set on the diamond and shows us critical elements of craftsmanship like
- Minimum and maximum angles on all 5 facet sets (crown mains, stars, upper halves, lower halves and pavilion mains).
- Every single facet measurement and angle.
- How much each of these facet sets deviate between their Min and Max measurements. (the more deviation there is the sloppier the diamond was cut! You will not see this on GIA, AGS or even standard Sarin Reports)
- Precise degrees of painting and digging.
- Exclusive Octonus Symmetry grading.
3d Gem Advisor Analysis and Views by Octonus: After we have scanned in a diamond on our Sarin HD machine we are then able to generate a 3 dimensional model of the diamond and import it into the “Gem Advisor” software. The software provides a linear ray trace analysis of the model of the diamond it is analyzing and rates
- Light return (mono)
- Light return (stereo)
- Dark zone mono (contrast between bright and dark reflections).
The software also provides virtual views of the diamond in
- Office lighting (diffuse)
- Disco lighting (spot)
- Ideal-Scope (red reflector)
- HDR Office (diffuse)
- HDR Disco (spot)
- AGS ASET view
- Hearts & Arrows view
- Al Gilbertson Scope view
- Leakage view
AGS PGS (Performance Grading Software) Results: When we examine a diamond we are able to provide our clients with actual AGS PGS results. PGS stands for “Performance Grading Software” which is the actual ray trace software analysis developed by the scientists at AGS laboratories to determine the cut grade and light performance of the diamond in question. This is particularly useful when we are examining diamonds that are not lab graded by AGS themselves. FYI AGS has what is considered the most conservative cut grading system in the world.
Exclusive GIA Facetware Analysis: Also included in our examinations is how any particular diamond would fare in the GIA Cut Grading system. Via our computerized analysis we can show our clients how any given diamond will fare in way of both symmetry and overalll cut grading in GIA’s system. This is particularly useful when we are examining diamonds graded by other labs.
Scan and inspection of original lab Report. Oftentimes there are “notes” on lab Reports which are foreign to most consumers. These can include comments on crown angles, graining, clouds, etc. Sometimes these characteristics impact the optics and/or transparency of the diamond and sometimes they have no effect whatsoever. We’ll inspect that and let you know.
Exclusive GIA DiamondDock Analysis: When leading research gemologist Al Gilbertson was spearheading the GIA Cut Grading system practical observation was key in developing which diamonds had the top optics. The lighting environment used was referred to as a CVE (common viewing environment). We not only incorporate this analysis into our personal examination but we show you as well!
When it comes to analysis of Clarity we provide the following…
Inspection and confirmation of clarity grade under a Leica 10x–64x microscope with dark field illumination.
Exclusive Professional Photomicrographs demonstrating primary grading inclusions under the same equipment. I can't overstate the importance of this service because websites which are offering "magnified images" are showing their images against white or colored backgrounds with overhead lighting. Diamond clarity is not judged or graded in this manner. It is under professional gemological microscopes with darkfield illumination. We are the only website we are aware of that offers this service.
Exclusive Inspection and analysis of clarity features that can compromise transparency such as graining and/or strain.
Exclusive Inspection for surface breaching inclusions on the crown that are open which can compromise structural integrity.
When it comes to analysis of Color …
Analysis next to master comparison stones under GIA official lighting for color grading.
Exclusive Inspection for tonal colors as diamonds of the same color grade can vary in value based on tonal color.
Exclusive Colorimeter Analysis (specifically for rounds)
Inspection for the effects of fluorescence on the diamonds optics and transparency. Although it is just fine in most instances there are instances when it can negatively impact the diamonds optics and transparency.
Regarding Carat Weight…
Confirmation of the actual weight via use of a digital balance down to 1/1000th of a carat.
Further confirmation of the weight based on its volume when scanned on the Sarin HD machine.
Exclusive Appraisal Report: On top of offering you the most superior selection of Ideal Cut diamonds of all shapes, as well as all these services PLUS the rock solid policies we back them with, we also include with your purchase hard copies of all the data we publish on that diamond in a formal Appraisal Report. We do this for YOUR protection. Why? Because while Good Old Gold does encourage outside professional independent appraisals very few appraisers in the world offer the array of gemological services we provide to our clients and which we include in our exclusive Appraisal Report. God forbid your diamond gets stolen, lost or damaged; the insurance company is only obligated to replace what is described in that appraisal. If it does not contain the details then they will find you the absolute cheapest product they can that will meet that description. With our exclusive Appraisal Report they must replace what is contained in that report. Just be sure to submit it when you insure your diamond.
