Extremely Important Tips

  • Know the exact weight. 

    • One main reason for pointing out those magic numbers in the weight is because there are stores that will sell and advertise 1 carat diamonds for $x,xxx.xx amount of dollars, and what you're not reading in their fine print is that they consider a 1 carat diamond to be from .95ct to 1.05ct.  There are still jewelry stores that do this and it is legal. Why this is important is because a diamond that weighs .95ct that is a G color VS2 may be  listing for $4,800 per carat while the same exact stone thatdollars.wmf (2448 bytes) weights 1.05ct would be listing for $6,100 per carat.  THAT IS A HUGE PRICE DIFFERENCE OF $1,845.00!!! I don't know about you but I can think of a lot of things I can buy for that money!!!  Diamonds that weigh from .90 - .99 have their own price bracket while diamonds that weigh from 1.00 to 1.49 have their own.

  • Consider going under a certain "magic number".

    • If you were considering the purchase of a 1½ carat diamond and find that the quality you want is way out of your league, drop wedring6.wmf (2036 bytes)under the magic number of 1.50 and you may find this quality is now within your reach (financially speaking). When you put a diamond that weighs in the 1.20's, 1.30's and 1.40's next to one that weighs 1.50ct there is not a big size difference (but there can be a "big money" difference) :0

  • Certain sizes are harder to find

    • While going under certain magic numbers may make stones more affordable, they can also be very difficult to find sometimes.  For example, I am an active buyer purchasing diamonds every week. Diamonds that weigh just under those magic numbers can be very difficult to find. Like stones in the 1.30's to 1.40's; stones from 1.70's to 1.90's can be extremely difficult to get in certain qualities. So, if you're going to try to dip under a certain "magic number" prepare to wait.   If you can't wait and don't have the time, consider getting the "magic number" you want, but go to a lower clarity or color. As you'll see you can get a lot of different clarities or colors that look, to the human eye identical.

  • Have your girl visit this site too!!!

    • When she starts seeing "reality" she may go a little easier on you in the size.  Then you can surprise her with somethingPE02072A.gif (2034 bytes) she may have not been expecting!!!  Have fun with this thing, with the knowledge I'll be sharing with you here you will certainly learn enough to be "dangerous" out there in the jungle yourself.
